Contaflex beta manual

Hi all, I got an old Contaflex beta from my grandpa a few years ago, and only now am I getting round to trying it out. It had fresh film put in just after I got it, but hasn’t yet been used. According to the manual, I appear to be doing everything correctly, yet the viewfinder remains totally black with only a very small square of light. The alpha was supplied as a simple manual camera, where as the Beta was supplied with an in built selenium meter situated below the film rewind.
